I agree, I definitely would not want to see an entire season of Chase just killing more copies of himself, but evidently that is going to be an element of his character arc next season, as well as exploring some of the psychological effects of that. As for the question of other Union gL counterpart being copies of the rest of the team, that couldn’t happen according to the technology as it has been explained. The only reason that the Union is able to produce multiple copies of chase is that they recovered a holon unit that contained the original imprint of Chases neural pattern. If the gL team were to face copies of themselves it would be opening the door to a whole other branch of Chase’s storyline from the first season where he was unaware that he was a copy of the original neural pattern and not the original, with them learning that they had all fallen in battle at some point and that this had been kept secret from them.
From the themes introduced in the last three episode of the first season I believe season 2 is going to be digging into personality and identity theory, from a lot of interesting angles. With both Chase and Caliban we may see alternative explorations of the Ship of Theseus, as well adaptation to the loss of one’s original self concept and the forming of a new sense of identity. I’m sure we will also continue to explore the social psychology of how we are shaped by our shared experiences with others, the idea to have Mindshare leaving residual memory imprints is such a fascinating way to explore the concept.
I should also add that I hope we will see a nuanced approach to the Union Characters, as Yaz demonstrates there are good people fighting for that side as well, whether because of what they have been taught to believe or because they have no choice.
