Aris Webb was an antagonist in the Storm Warning novel. Posing as a refugee, she spread rumors of "stolen minds" among her group of fellow refugees in order to lure the gen:LOCK team to De Soto Base.
She successfully infiltrated De Soto, but was discovered by Cameron MacCloud and brought to an interrogation room. She nearly escaped, but was trapped in an Interceptor and killed by her own Nanotechnology.
Appearance[]
Webb was a thin woman who frequently is seen wearing a hip-length leather coat. Her light hair was tipped with metallic red, and, unlike other refugees, she wore makeup.
Personality[]
Aris initially comes off as friendly and sociable, although she notably had several disagreements with Cammie, which often revolved around the latter's age and inexperience. She was also rather flirtatious, first attempting to ask Julian Chase on a date and later being seen with two other Vanguard Soldiers. Charlie Little believed that Aris was inauthentic, and disliked how she led her group of refugees.
History[]
Aris was forced to work in a Union factory near Tallahassee, along with the Foxe brothers. They organized a group of workers on the second shift and planned to escape the Union with them. The group was plagued with misfortune, losing three members at a roadblock and another three, including Jake Foxe, at the Vanguard rendezvous. Aris claimed that Jake Foxe had refused to give the group details about the "stolen brains", as it would only put the group in more danger.
Sometime during their flight across the 88th, Aris' group had run into Charlie Little's group of refugees and has joined forces.
After arriving at the De Soto Base and being cleared by security, Aris intervenes in an argument between Liam Foxe and Cammie MacCloud. She apologizes for Liam's behavior, citing his grief over his brother as a cause. Later, she thanks Cammie and Chase for assisting her group of refugees and asks Chase if he is attending the hurricane party. Cammie notes that she is attempting to flirt with Chase. She ends up attending the hurricane party with two Vanguard soldiers, and has an argument with Cammie when she insults Cammie's choice of avatar.
After the hurricane party, Cammie is attacked online by a phantom of Nemesis, and she proves that Aris had tried to hack her account and target her files on gen:LOCK. Aris is arrested by Security and brought to an interrogation room, where Major Rountree and Chase ask her about her time in the Union. When asked about her technological knowledge, Aris releases Nanotech and threatens the Major with it. She forces her way out of the room and makes it to the hangar, where she attempts to steal an Interceptor, but is locked inside by Cammie. After being locked inside, her nanotech kills her.
Abilities[]
Engineering[]
Aris was a technician in a Union Factory, where she installed computer systems into weaponry. She has a working knowledge of computer hardware, though she laments that her knowledge does not extend to Polity computer systems. She also carries an unusual set of tools for installation, and rebuilds and rides motorcycles in her free time.
Subterfuge[]
She was able to cross the 88th and infiltrate De Soto Base without alerting the Vanguard or her group of refugees as to her true identity and motives, and was cleared by Vanguard Security. Despite her popularity among some of the refugees, Charlie Little was suspicious of her comparatively easy journey through Union territory, but attributed Aris' behavior to stress.
