For far too long, the Great Union of the Fourth Turning Republics has watched you revel in childish individualism. We have watched you celebrate your heroes while your forgotten are trodden underfoot. We have watched you put peace before unity...Rejoice, then. For such sadness is at an end.
- Carlyle, gen:LOCK #7

Commander Carlyle is a character in gen:LOCK who is among the many high-ranking officials in the Union, and is also the leader of the Union forces summoned to Osaka by Brother Tate.

In the Comics[]

He first appears in gen:LOCK #2 as an obscure yet mysterious figure overseeing the gen:LOCK team battle his forces at a Union blockade surrounding Japan.

At the end of gen:LOCK #7, he gives out a televised speech to the people in Japan accusing them of reveling in "childish individualism" just as his forces, along with their "weapons of war" consisting of spider tanks, soldiers, and Behemoths arrive in Osaka, forcing Yasamin Madrani, Kazu Iida, and Valentina Romanyszyn to make a run to their Holons before their time runs out. However in gen:LOCK #9, the three including Cameron MacCloud, and later at the end of gen:LOCK #12, Julian Chase, managed to get to them while the war raged on.

In the last two chapters of gen:LOCK, he and General Genji Anno of the Japanese Polity were both addressed by Yaz to work together in taking down the Shogunate using the exact coordinates given to them, and finishing off the monstrous Sycorax once and for all while the gen:LOCK team clears the latter.

Appearance[]

He is a Caucasian man with short gray hair, pale blue eyes, wrinkled cheeks, and an unpleasant personality. He wears a black top with signature crimson outline and a metal collared underlayer underneath.
