  • Hello,

Well, I see your wall has been slammed enough as is being the only active administrator here– I'll try keeping this brief~

Episode transcripts are, unsurprisingly, rather long on episode article pages. This creates a rather bulky mess and lessens an article's readability in the source editor (although navigating it is a great workout for your scrolling finger, I'll tell ya). May I suggest relocating transcripts for the time being as an episode subpage? Or is there a preference and reason to keeping it inline in articles?

Figured it was best to ask before partaking in this rather insignificant, but not entirely inconsequential task. (In the future, I would like to suggest a more radical solution involving custom namespaces to push transcripts out of the content namespaces, but that's less practical atm.)

    • @HazelQuill: I didn't mean to seem like I was trying to press that it was a problem, and I am fine keeping it the way it is, I just didn't completely understand your response and I wanted to make sure I didn't accidentally do something that would create more of a problem.

This reduces the need for two templates in the source mode and shows a link to the editable page. Having that visible line of text and bar, I feel, should be included in the show/hide as it looks rather ugly otherwise.

I am also going to say it's a bit annoying to be asked a question as "the only active administrator here" and then be silently disagreed with and my contributions recoded and rewritten.

It was my understanding that what I had done was in accordance with what we had discussed– to migrate transcript pages, and I figured what I had done was to help incorporate the {{Transcript}} template with the migration, as you had stated that yourself that you may be unfamiliar with the wikitext. I incorrectly assumed that the template was not modified because of this, not that it was consciously left untouched. I see now that I should have been more thorough and less brief with the discussion.

I had no intention of subverting your choices, my intention was merely to modify the templates for the migration. Sorry if it appeared as anything otherwise.

I suppose I will keep it in mind to discuss such choices in depth in any of our further correspondence.

  • So DSandstorm just brought up the fact that our infoboxes are named kinda haphazardly, and I was wondering how we wanted to name them for consistency. It's not really urgent, but I just figured I'd mention it.

    • Yeah, since I can't delete, I turned it into a redirect to the agreed naming convention. Thanks for fixing

    • I suggest that you move the code over to the pre-existing one and then the Episodes-infobox can be deleted.

That was the idea. You're welcome. Thanks for moving the code over.

  • So don't plan to do anything immediately (a bit swamped atm) but I'd like to start fixing up the main page to be a bit more useful (like have links out to popular pages, major characters, updates, etc.) Did you have anything in particular in mind you'd like to include/not include for it? For now I'm thinking of sticking with a more "modular" approach (basically separate templates for each section so it's just like legos and would allow easy moving around of pieces).

  • For the Universe navigation section, can you change the level 2 to be links to their categories and to have them auto populate the menu.

  • So I noticed you guys are trying to set up a weird template system with the Episodes page. I can provide some CSS so you won't need to set up individual templates for the style. However, if you really want to keep the information consistent between infoboxes and that page, I'd suggest DPL for it. The downside to this is that DPL can be taxing on the server: basically for fast connections the reader won't notice anything, but those with slow connections may notice it takes longer to load (especially if there's a lot of pages it needs to pull information from). If you wish to do it though I can tell you what you'll need to request from Wikia (a few things need to be enabled by staff to get it up and running).

    • No problem! Also down the road if you want to split images off into their own gallery (like they do in RWBY) I have a tab system I've already set up for another wiki that I think will work well here as well design wise :) But right now for the remainder just going to sort out the templates and images and hopefully not step on any toes.

    • Good. I think we should wait until a few more episodes have come out, or at least until someone gets some more screenshots, but it's nice to know that you're on top of it.

  • Hi Hazel,

With the episodes coming out now, I noticed the infoboxes felt rather generic (like using the same style on RWBY). Which is fine if you're aiming to keep a consistent format across all Rooster Teeth shows, but I felt perhaps as Genlock is meant to be more sci-fi, it couldn't hurt to update it :) I've fiddled around a bit threw this together:
    Genlock infobox idea

If this is ok, I can write up the code better so it's easier to manage if you decide down the road to do color themes for certain characters.

    • The main problem is that we AREN'T sure when the episodes are made public.

    • Well I'm a non-First member, so I can tell you which ones are made available to us when the next one unlocks. But another way to check is not be signed into your RT account and check the website to see if they're available to watch.

  • We'll certninly be having our work cut out for us with the first two episodes dropping today, so we best start cracking down. There are a few infoboxes that need to be made, most noticably for music and epsiodes, if they don't already exist. For those, I've decided to follow the format established by the RWBY wiki. Is that alright?

  • I had some gripes with the wording of it too, but that's the summary in the video's description, straight from Rooster Teeth. So I didn't touch it. Of course though if you don't think we need to go with the exact words then that's totally alright. There's no standard way of doing it and all.

    • I couldn't help but notice that the summaries created by the same anon on other pages held a lot of sensationalism/propaganda to them. We're a wiki: we're not selling the show, but making a factual record. In this case, it was just the slightest bit of tweaking to make the summary more about accuracy.

So, no, we don't need to go with the exact wording from the RT website when it comes to summaries.

  • Something's been bugging me. I swear I've seen you on other Wiki. Like the RWBY wiki or the Death Battle Wiki, something like that. But I don't see a 'My Favorite Wikis" thing in your info box at the top of the page. So I don't know if I'm going crazy or what.

    • I know it's not aimed at me, but I know how Hazel did it. If you look at your profile page and press edit for the 'I live in, My occupation' etc part of the profile page, you can tick a box that says "Hide All." What this does is remove the 'My favourite Wikis' tag on the profile page.

      I hope this helps.

    • Hiya! Yes, we've absolutely seen each other on the RWBY wiki. I was staff there for over a year. ^.^ The fan art blog that exploded was mine. You did the Volume 4 Bingo, while I did the Vol 4 Deadpool. Stuff like that.

    • @Spirited, Okay then. That makes sense.

      @Hazel, Ah. I knew it.
